Baseband Requirement on iOS 4.2.1!!

So pretty much if you are using Saurik’s server or tiny umbrella and if you are trying to restore 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, you will end up in recovery mode and tiny umbrella will not be able to pull you out of recovery. This comes from BigBoss;

“It seems that Apple has decided to put a baseband requirement on iOS. So at this point, if you are using Saurik’s server or tiny umbrella and trying to restore 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4, you will end up in recovery mode and tiny umbrella will not be able to pull you out of recovery. In this case, you will have to restore 4.1 again or you will have to restore 4.2.1 stock and be tether jailbroken. (Of course, I recommend 4.1 and not bothering with 4.2.1 at all). If you are an unlocker, this is a no brainier. Do not update to 4.2.1 even to test it at this point.”

So there you have it do not update to iOS 4.2.1, especially if you are an unlocker! The jailbreak will be tethered/semitethered!

More Details On iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak and Unlock

Im pretty sure you guys know that Apple released iOS 4.2.1 to the public and as always the dev team posted an update on there blog. Here’s what it says;

With Turkey Day a few days off, today Apple publicly released FW version 4.2.1.  As always, ultrasn0w unlockers please stay far far away from this official firmware (and all official firmware).  Wait for the ability to create custom 4.2.1. IPSWs that don’t update your baseband!  If you’re not an unlocker, read on!
The best news of all is for owners of iPhone3G, older iPhone3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G.  Due to a combination of our original pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and limera1n, your device is “just as jailbreakable as ever.”  You reap the full benefit of an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.
Next are the owners of all the more recent devices.  The good news there is that due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, all recent devices can be jailbroken (this will be true until Apple released new hardware that fixes geohot’s limerain exploit in the bootrom).  The bad news is that right now, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is *tethered* on all of these recent devices.  A tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state.  @comex is working hard on a method that may untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak, but it will require you to have your 4.1 SHSH blobs in order to use it.  No word on how much more effort it will take though (please don’t bug @comex about it!).  (We also have an alternative method that may work, but @comex’s method is much more elegant.)
So when does all this 4.2.1 jailbreak action happen?  Well if you’re a JB developer or tinkerer, you’ve already probably used the redsn0w mentioned in our last post to jailbreak 4.2.1 and at least get SSH working.  But beyond that, there are still some last minute issues with MobileSubstrate and comex’s kernel patches that are being fixed.  We’ll tweet and post a blog update when it’s all available (we hate to give ETAs, but barring any unforeseen problems, probably later today).
In the meantime, please make sure you have your 4.1 SHSH blobs for all your devices.  These will be important even for firmware beyond 4.1 (using both comex’s method and our alternative, depending on how each of them turn out.)
ultrasn0w unlock: After redsn0w is officially released with the new Cydia and kernel patches, we’ll be able to assess the unlock situation.  It’s already looking very promising though, so expect the unlock for the 3G and 3GS to be coming this week.  The i4 unlock is taking more effort though, and no further concrete info is available about that yet.

So there you have it guys.. Don’t update to 4.2.1 if you want a tethered/semitethered jailbreak!

iH8sn0w Releases Sn0wbreeze 2.1

The long awaited sn0wbreeze 2.1 has been released by iH8sn0w. It supports all javascript:void(0)devices on all bootroms which includes iPod 4, Apple TV and iPhone 4 along with all the other devices! This is very similar to pwnagetool for mac! This tool also preserves the 4.1 unlockable baseband! To enter DFU on the Apple TV 2 -- Hold the Menu + Play Button until your Apple TV 2 blinks really fast. Then Release. (while plugged in)
1. Download iPSW and select it from Sn0wbreeze

2. Build iPSW and include extras if you want

3. Put your iDevice in Dfu mode and restore ignore any errors and that’s it your jailbroken :)

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak/Unlock Update Status

Im sure you guys know that iOS 4.2 will be releasing soon (most likely friday) and there will be a jailbreak for it/unlock. Here is an update that the dev team gave on there blog:

• Thanks to geohot’s limera1n exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit, and @pod2g’s ipod2g-MC exploit, absolutely all devices at all iOS firmware versions are capable of being jailbroken.
• The untethered jailbreak of those very latest FWs and latest devices depends on @comex hacks.  His hacks so far extend only to 4.1 and 4.2beta3.  He’s working on a way to extend it to 4.2 and beyond.  Just wait for him to work out his method.
• iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers will be covered by our upcoming unlock.  Stay away from any updates to Apple FW until our official release and you’ll be okay.  Just stay away from all Apple IPSWs
• iPhone4 unlockers are not left out in the cold.  @sherif_hashim has found some very promising avenues to pursue.  Those will be explored as soon as possible after all the 4.2 madness.

What does this mean to you?

• If you’re an unlocker, just stay where you are.  Please, just stay where you are. Any mistakes you make now may be permanent.
• If you only care about the jailbreak and you’re absolutely sure you have your personalized 4.1 SHSH hashes, feel free to experiment but keep in mind that any mistakes you make may result in your losing pictures or notes or bookmarks that you’d rather keep.  Honestly unless you love living on the bleeding edge, it’s better to just wait for official updates from Cydia/redsn0w/PwnageTool.
• Don’t buy or donate to any unlock or jailbreak scammers.  Every legitimate solution you will find for unlocks or jailbreaks will be offered without an extended hand.  That’s how the iPhone jailbreak/unlock community has succeeded.  It’s about freedom to do what you want with your $300 device —  not about donations, egos, tweets, or “interviews.”

Be Sure to save your your SHSH blobs for iOS 4.2 Beta 3 because it will ensure an untethered jaibreak for the official iOS 4.2 jailbreak! Save it using tinyumbrella (link below and video guide below!)

Apple Releases iOS 4.2 GM Version

Apple has just released the final GM (Gold Master) version of iOS 4.2 to developers! Only members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access these bits by signing into there account. Even though this is a GM version i would still advise downloading it because it may still have some bugs. The official version should be coming very soon!

PhoneBook iPhone Hacktivation Method Blocked By Apple!

Sherif Hashim well know baseband hacker, said that the phonebook activation method without having a legit sim card has been blocked by Apple! But this it what he also said:  fortunately though, with limera1n and Greenpois0n, Phonebook SIM card hacktivation trick isn’t required anymore as the mentioned exploits are bootrom based, and therefore can hacktivate your phone without needing the original SIM.
Phonebook SIM card were required back in those userland based jailbreak days, with tools like JailBreakMe and Spirit to bypass “Connect to iTunes” screen.

PwnageTool 4.1 Released for Jailbreaking Apple TV 2G, iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G For Mac!!

The Dev Team has finally released PwnageTool 4.1 which is based on recently released Geohot’s bootrom-based Limera1n exploit. This exploit enables this new version of PwnageTool to build custom firmware files for A4 devices like iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2G and iPod touch 4G which was something, previously not possible.

PwnageTool 4.1 supports the following devices:

* iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1
* iPhone 3GS (new and old bootrom) on iOS 4.1
* iPhone 3G
* iPad on iOS 3.2.2

GreenPois0n is now available for download. If for some reason Geohot's Limera1n didn’t work for you, you can give this one a try to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G / 3G and iPad. Support for iPod Touch  2G and Apple TV will also be added soon but there are no apps as of right now for the Apple TV. SHAtter has been saved for future devices. As you know yesterday Geohot shocked everyone by  releasing limera1n, forcing the Chronic Dev team not to release Greenpois0n and waste a second bootrom exploit.This Comes from there blog:
Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.
We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.

Geohot Makes His Return With Limera1n! Can Jailbreak ALL iOS 4.1 Devices for Life!

Geohot has made a epic return to the jailbreak scene with a complete new bootrom exploit and tool to pwn all current iOS devices on iOS 4.1 for life with a completly different bootrom exploit the SHAtter! He has been out for months, but his return is surely going to please everyone, especially the 3rd-generation iPhone and iPod touch owners who were left out by SHAtter (GreenPois0n).

This news has been confirmed by members of The Chronic Dev Team on to whom Geohot has confirmed about his return with a complete different tool  Limera1n. SHAtter (Greenpois0n) are both Bootrom exploits but different ,Geohot's Bootrom exploit will jailbreak ALL existing devices not just the newer devices like Greenpois0n does. The Chronic Dev Team of course isn’t too pleased with it, they want Geohot to save this new bootrom exploit for the future next-gen iPad 2 and iPhone 5 devices cause two bootrom exploits would be just a waste. New Greenpois0n Jailbreak Untethered But only for 4.1/3.2.2!

Just now on Twitter The chronic Dev team posted that Greenpois0n is untethered thanks to comex. This comes from Comex: "Yes, that means you need to back up SHSH or you will lose untethered when 4.1.1 comes out, kthx." Then MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team tweeted this: "Those reading between the lines: Yes SHAtter itself is tethered. @comex came up with a way to untether it on 4.1/3.2.2"-"SHAtter is yet another breed of exploit. Bootrom-based but requires userland "assistance" for untethered boots (@comex did this for 4.1)" So somehow Comex integrated a userland exploit with SHAtter which is bootrom to make it untethered ONLY FOR 4.1/3.2.2. So technically Greenpois0n is half userland half bootrom. This jailbreak will still not be able to be patched by Apple but it will be tethered on future firmwares so that means when 4.2 is dropped next month GP will be tethered,unless Comex can find a way like he did for Greenpois0n to make it untethered.I know this is a bit confusing i am a bit confused myself! Redsn0w 0.9.6. Beta 1 Released For Windows Finally!

Today the iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 1 for Windows Finally for the iphone 3g and the ipod touch 2g mc model and non mc model and it will jailbreak 4.1 and 4.2 beta 1 (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK). However on the mc model ipod touch it will be tethered which means each time you turn off your ipod you will have to re-jailbreak your ipod.
Step 1: Download iOS 4.1 for your version of iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G.
Step 2: Update to this latest firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.
Step 3:  Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 (download links at the end) and Browse for iOS 4.1 Firmware. 
Step 4: Select "Install Cydia" and click on Next

Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

Step 6: At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode by holding “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 7: You will Get a Jailbroken Device as soon as the process ends.

Today on Twitter we got an ETA for Greenpois0n which is Sunday at 10:10:10AM GMT.  Many people were hyped that Greenpois0n would jailbreak the iPhone 3gs and iPod Touch 3g. Earlier on Twitter today MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team tweeted that Greenpois0n would only jailbreak the iPod Touch 4, iPhone 4, iPad, and the newly released Apple Tv (iTV). Many people were dissappointed but MuscleNerd confirmed that Comex is working on a jailbreak for these older devices. So again please be patient to the people who have these older devices. SHAttered AppleTV 2G (video)

SHAtter Jailbreak Demoed on Apple TV!!!

The Dev-Team has now managed to jailbreak the newly released 2nd-gen Apple TV, running 4.1 using SHAtter exploit loaded on a beta version of PwnageTool. SHAtter is a low-level bootrom exploit. In order to patch this jailbreak they will have to introduce newer hardware devices for all the current iOS devices to patch the jailbreak.So your Devices Will be jailbroken for life using the SHAtter exploit!!

This comes from the Dev Team's blog: It’s confirmed…SHAtter can trick Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too!  Literally the only UI application on the ATV is Lowtide.app, but now the window is open for jailbroken apps of all varieties.  (Just like the early iPhone days, the only apps you’ll see on the AppleTV will be jailbroken ones). In the meantime, here’s a video showing root access (via ssh) into Apple’s new product.

Greenpois0n release down to days?

The SHAtter exploit with Greenpois0n might be released within a few days! Today someone asked pod2g on witter if the release date is gonna be released within weeks or days. Apple Releases 4.2 Beta 2 and iTunes 10.1 Beta (Developers Only!)

Apple released iOS 4.2 build number 8C5101c, has been released to it's registered developers only, and the file is 521MB. Again like all the other beta's DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOU WANT AN UNLOCK/JAILBREAK! Some new features in 4.2 beta 2 are the AirPrint features have been detailed a little bit further stating new compatible printer models from the HP Photosmart family, also including a note that iOS 4.2 devices can print directly to printers that have been shared through a Mac or a PC. iTunes 10.1 will most likely be released with iOS 4.2 in November. 4.2 beta 2 is compatible with all iDevices. SHAtter Exploit Might Also Jailbreak the New Apple TV !

MuscleNerd of the iPhone dev team  confirmed today that this new exploit which was found by pod2g an ex  member of the Chronic Dev-Team will also work on the new Apple Tv (iTV). Since Apple TV also runs on iOS 4.1. It would be awesome to see what jailbroken features you could get on a jailbroken iTV, like cydia.This comes from the dev teams blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/): It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving.  Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys!  The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:

If you’re familiar with vfdecrypt, you can use that key to decrypt the image and mount it.  If you do so, feel free to use the comments section to discuss what you discover there :)  (And of course, thanks @pod2g!) So there you go the SHAtter exploit will also jailbreak the Apple tv! Remember it's a bootrom exploit so Apple cannot patch so buy it fast to secure your jailbreak before Apple patches it!

SHAttered iPod touch 4G (Video Demo)

iPhone Dev-Team FINALLY Demoes SHAtter for iOS 4.1 Jailbreak on iPod touch 4G!!

The iPhone Dev Team has finally showed a video demo of SHAtter (pod2g's exploit) in action! They are using pwnagetool to demonstrate the video. It will be released later so iPhone 4 users can preserve their baseband to unlock. The iPhone Dev team said that faster tools are in process (Greenpois0n) is being developed to jailbreak all idevices. The best thing about this jailbreak is that Apple will not be able to patch this jailbreak because it is a bootrom exploit! They will have to release a new set of idevices with different hardware! pod2g the hacker behind SHAtter exploit has just published all decryption keys to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4. This means that the new jailbreak greenpois0n jailbreak tool is almost done and ready to be released  The jailbreak keys were posted on the theiphonewiki.com so we can say that the tool is almost ready! Ispazio a very legit source says that the jailbreak will possibly be untethered! The keys are above. The tweets are on the left

Google voice which is $2.99 is now free in the app store for a few hours hurry and go get it! GV Mobile+ will go back to its normal price at around 10pm PST so hurry! Google Voice allows users to make calls in the US using Google’s free voice service. It also gives users the ability to send free texts to anywhere in the US from virtually anywhere in the world!
